Program Description

Improve Your Hockey Skating IQ

At Pro Stride, we are power skating experts and believe that skating is the cornerstone of ice hockey. Skating is a critical skill that every player, from enthusiastic youth players to seasoned professional players, must constantly refine and enhance. We don’t just make players skate through cones at full speed without corrections. We TEACH and equip players with the knowledge and skills necessary to be fast, quick, explosive, and efficient on the ice, as well as how to incorporate these techniques into a game. We ensure personalized attention for each player, focusing on their unique needs and identify areas for improvement.

We are committed to enhancing a player’s Hockey Skating IQ, a comprehensive blend of technical skating skill, understanding, and decision-making tailored specifically to the dynamic needs of ice hockey. This unique focus extends beyond traditional line drills, circle drills and edgework. We delve deeper into the strategic application of these skills, enabling players to anticipate and adeptly navigate the flow of the game. A high Hockey Skating IQ empowers players with the ability to make quick decisions that capitalize on their skating abilities, providing a tangible competitive edge in both offensive and defensive scenarios. Our program is meticulously designed to elevate on-ice performance by combining technical skating proficiency with strategic in-game applications.

Why Choose Pro Stride?

At Pro Stride, we elevate players' Hockey Skating IQ through targeted progression in three key areas.

  1. Technique: Our training begins with a focus on technical precision. By slowing players down, we address and correct “bad habits,” ensuring each maneuver is executed correctly with power. This initial phase is crucial as it lays the groundwork for all future advancements in speed. Mastery of technique is not just our starting point, it’s the core of our philosophy and needs to be consistently improved and reinforced. “Slow is smooth, smooth is Fast.”
  2. Achieving Speed: The next step is seamless integration of technique and power at full speed. We emphasize smooth, controlled movements to ensure that players can transition to high-speed drills effectively. Achieving speed is not just about moving fast; it’s about maintaining precision and power in every stride, turn, and stop, enabling players to excel at high rates of speed.
  3. Game Application: The culmination of our training philosophy is combining and applying these skills in a game situational environment. We do not want players to just be “pretty” skaters; we want them to be able to actively apply the skating maneuvers in a game. We will utilize controlled game situational drills that will allow players to apply and combine learned skills in realistic game scenarios.
